Salzmann: The use of the battery train on the L\u00e4ndchesbahn primarily serves to test a relatively new drive technology in real operation. RMV and HLB want to gain practical experience both in daily use and in the maintenance of such vehicles. In addition to the technical and operational findings, it is particularly important to both partners how these vehicles are accepted by our passengers and employees.  <\/p>\n<p>The L\u00e4ndchesbahn was deliberately chosen as the test track, as a manageable section here is well suited for such a pilot operation. At the same time, the route offers a wide variety of users: These include early commuters, office workers, schoolchildren and passengers in leisure traffic. This allows the vehicles to be tested under different conditions.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>What gap does the battery train close in the RMV network, or what gaps can battery trains close in the RMV network in the future \u2014 and why as a pilot on the L\u00e4ndchesbahn between Wiesbaden Hbf and Niedernhausen?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>V. Salzmann: The experience that we are gaining together on the L\u00e4ndchesbahn should be an important basis for decision-making as to which drive technologies HLB and RMV will use in new tenders in the future. In Hesse, there are several transport networks in which vehicles with diesel engines are still on the road today. These are particularly suitable for the use of battery trains (BEMU).  <\/p>\n<p>The test operation on the L\u00e4ndchesbahn helps to gain realistic insights and thus create a reliable basis for decision-making. Salzmann: HLB is pursuing the goal of becoming a completely emission-free company by 2040. We have set out our goals and the measures derived from them in the annual Sustainability Report in accordance with the CSRD standard and will implement them consistently.<\/p>\n<p>A crucial part of this strategy is the gradual deployment of climate-neutral vehicles. The replacement of diesel vehicles \u2013 for example with battery trains (BEMU) \u2013 is a key component in achieving our emissions target.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does this pilot operation mean in concrete terms for the future of rail transport in Hesse?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>V. Salzmann: The battery-powered train pilot on the L\u00e4ndchesbahn is more than a technical test \u2013 it is an important step on the way to completely emission-free rail transport in Hesse. The practical experience we are gaining now creates the basis for well-founded decisions in future tenders.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re learning not only how the technology works, but also how it&#8217;s being embraced by people \u2013 passengers and employees alike. These findings are priceless when it comes to selecting the right driving technology for the various route networks in Hesse.<\/p>\n<p>Our goal is clear: by 2040, we want to be a completely emission-free company. The battery train on the L\u00e4ndchesbahn shows that this path is not only possible, but already underway.
